Shanklin seafront was bursting with Summer spirit yesterday (Thursday) as crowds gathered for the return of the ever-popular Shanklin Regatta, a cherished tradition on the Isle of Wight’s events calendar.
With wall-to-wall sunshine and a backdrop of golden sands, families, locals and tourists alike enjoyed an evening of free entertainment stretching from early evening into the night.
The event has been running annually for an astonishing 172 years.
The stage on Shanklin Esplanade saw performances from Vectis Brass and local favourites The Mix, bringing live music to the beachside atmosphere. Children enjoyed traditional beach games, while food vendors kept everyone fuelled for the day of fun.
As the sun dipped behind the cliffs, all eyes turned to the skies for a spectacular fireworks finale, lighting up the coast in a fitting end to an evening of fun and tradition.
The event was organised by the Shanklin Regatta Committee with support from Shanklin Town Council and local businesses.
