The Cowes Floating Bridge has been unexpectedly taken out of service this evening (Sunday).
The troubled vessel has been moored up on the Cowes side of the River Medina with an undisclosed problem.
It is currently unclear when the floating bridge will resume a normal timetabled service.
A foot passenger launch is in operation between East Cowes and West Cowes, but motorists are having to divert via Newport in both directions.
UPDATE MONDAY @ 07:40 – The service remains suspended this morning.
It is thought an issue with the vessel’s generators is to blame for the technical outage.
UPDATE MONDAY @ 14:35 – The floating bridge is now back in service.

Well that’s good , just in time for the school’s going back this week. It will add to the mayhem to St Mary’s roundabout tomorrow morning.

An embarrassment for the Isle of Wight council, IF they had any self respect.

What happened about the reliable service we surpose to have while the road works at stmarys whas going on ?
What a waist of time and money. You guys at the council get voted in year after year and still you you don’t listen to your people. You have got it wrong this time guys. If you had put the money and times it has broken down you could have bought a new more reliable one. Because I am a disabled driver I have to take an other driver with me on long distant. So I have a hard time when it is out of,service. So Mr Council man listen to us please
What a waist of our money there should be a law stating that councils can not use our money to buy crap. You should have realise the first time it started breaking down that it was not the right one for us. So Mr Council either you hand back our money or you get rid of this heap a scap and get us a bridge that is reliable.

And the Council says this is an alternative to St Mary’s roundabout,about time we had a Council change!!
Can’t, too many trouser lifters in the council. IOW ‘Mafia’ run it.
Back in service until, of course, it breaks down again 🙂
