STRONG WINDS CAUSE FRIDAY SOLENT DISRUPTION

UPDATED: Adverse weather conditions are causing disruption to cross-Solent travel this morning (Friday).

Hovertravel have suspended their Ryde to Southsea service until further notice due to the strong winds.

It’s likely that the hover service will be out of action for several hours, as has been the case in recent days when the wind has picked up.

Wightlink have cancelled the 07:50 car ferry sailing from Yarmouth as a result of the winds lashing down on the Western Solent.

All other routes are running to timetable, but travellers should expect further disruption as the day continues – and throughout the weekend.

UPDATE @ 08:58 – Wightlink have announced that the 10:05 sailing from Yarmouth has now also been cancelled.

Hovertravel’s service remains suspended with the next update expected at 09:45.

UPDATE @ 11:06 – Hovertravel services have now resumed and Wightlink are advising that their services are returning to normal as well.

UPDATE @ 14:06 – Despite improving conditions, Hovertravel say they have suspended services due to adverse weather conditions. The next update will be at 14:45.

UPDATE @ 15:09 – Hovertravel services will resume at 15:15 from Ryde and 15:30 from Southsea.

UPDATE @ 16:13 – Due to the continuing high winds predicted on the Solent this afternoon, the 17:00 and 20:05 Wightlink sailings from Lymington and the 18:05 and 21:10 sailings from Yarmouth have been cancelled.

The 19:00 sailing from Yarmouth will depart slighlty earlier at 18:45 and the 19:15 sailing from Lymington will depart later at 19:35 to allow Wightlink to resposition their ships in preparation for tomorrow’s service.

UPDATE @ 19:10 – Hovertravel have, for the third time today, cancelled their cross-Solent service due to the adverse weather conditions.

The next update will be at 20:15.
