Camphill Stormers have retained the Vectis Pétanque League title – their 4th consecutive championship – after finishing 9 points clear at the top of the table.
The Stormers ended the season on 61 points, with Bargeman’s Sails runners-up on 52.
Newton also enjoyed individual success, claiming the Isle of Wight Triples title with Glen Jones and Emma Stockbridge.
Six Stormers will now represent the Isle of Wight in the Inter-Regionals at Sand Bay, Weston-super-Mare, on 13th and 14th September. They’ll join teammates from the Bargeman’s, Victorians, Plessey and Fleming clubs in Pétanque England’s biggest annual competition.
Captain Sean Newton reflected on the Stormers’ achievements:
“Winning the league four years in succession is a fantastic achievement although after the 2 opening games of the season it looked unlikely. The team showed great resilience and character, winning 12 of the remaining games including 9 of those 5-0. We’re looking forward to playing the autumn league and Godbold and having our end of season party!”
On the upcoming Inter-Regionals, he added:
“Following promotion in 2023 the region played in the first division in 2024 and finished sixth out of eight teams, ensuring it was not relegated. Undoubtedly 2025 will provide an equally tough challenge but we have the players to compete at the highest level.”
