A Newport man has been jailed for 6 months following a campaign of stalking on the Isle of Wight.
Steven Tunney, 48, of St James Street in Newport, was jailed for 24 weeks when he appeared before Magistrates on Friday 11th November.
Tunney subjected a woman to continued unwanted contact between 12th October and 20th October this year, including making numerous phone calls to the victim, leaving threatening voicemails, and posting a threatening letter. Messages were also sent to the victim over Facebook and via text.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with stalking, which he admitted at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on 21st October.
At his sentencing on Friday, in addition to the prison term, he was also made subject to a 2-year restraining order and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £154 victim surcharge.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:
“We take offences of this nature very seriously, and we know that not everyone who has been abused always has the confidence to speak to police.
