UPDATED: Police are remaining tight-lipped about an incident at the Co-Operative Welcome store on Arthur’s Hill in Shanklin tonight (Wednesday), in which a staff member was injured.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police were called to the convenience store at the junction with St Martin’s Road at around 22:30 after an unknown staff member was injured during the incident, the details of which are currently unclear.
It is not known at this moment in time if a robbery has occurred and if so, if any cash or products have been taken.
Police have now left the scene and are not providing any further details at this time.
UPDATE THURSDAY @ 08:25 – Sources have told Island Echo that an investigation is now underway after a masked man entered the Shanklin store ‘armed with a crowbar’ and threatened staff, before ‘making off with an unknown amount of cash’.
One person was injured in the robbery after being punched to the ground.
This latest incident comes just 2 weeks after the Welcome store in Avenue Road, Sandown was robbed. It’s not known if Police are linking the two crimes.
