A cyclist is being treated by paramedics for injuries sustained in a hit-and-run collision on the outskirts of Ryde this morning (Sunday).
It was just before 11:40 that the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service was called to Green Lane, at the junction with Ashey Road, to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a bicycle.
Island Echo understands a Renault Clio – red in colour – was travelling away from Ryde towards Brading when it came into contact with the well-equipped cyclist.
Witnesses say that the vehicle had overtaken the cyclist and was turning left into Green Lane when it clipped the male cyclist, resulting in him falling from his bicycle.
The car failed to stop, continuing towards Brading.
An ambulance crew, critical care paramedic and an operational commander from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene and are tending to the casualty, who is expected to be conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
His injuries are not thought to be serious.
Green Lane is currently closed in both directions as emergency services continue their work at the scene, but the road is expected to reopen shortly.
It is the second hit-and-run incident in a little over 12 hours, with a pedestrian mowed down by a car that failed to stop in Sandown last night (Saturday).
