A speeding car that was being chased by Police has lost control along a quiet residential road and has smashed into multiple parked cars in Newport this evening (Sunday).
The incident occurred on Robin Hood Street on Pan Estate at around 21:30, however, it is unknown how long the pursuit was going on for.
A single fire crew from Newport, a single ambulance crew as well as numerous Police vehicles are currently at the scene.
It is believed that the driver was speeding along the narrow road, cluttered with parked cars on either side, and collided with numerous stationary vehicles.
The main vehicle, a blue Audi S3, has collided with a Nissan Juke and at least 2 other vehicles. All cars have sustained varying degrees of damage.
The road is currently blocked between Green Street and Beech Road.
It is believed that the suspect has been arrested by Police, with officers still present at the scene conducting enquires whilst recovery of the vehicles is organised.
UPDATE @ 23:05 – Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has now left the scene after the vehicles were deemed to be safe.
Police still remain at the scene.
Hampshire Constabulary has been approached for a statement.

I expect that the police will do a thorough job, it might take weeks though. In the meantime, those affected should contact the pm for reimbursement
Such a pity that the driver walked away. What a result if it were in a wheelchair for the rest of time. Likely would still be cheaper than keeping it fit and breeding more clones to ruin our children’s futures too. Hopefull next time.
All the Island needs is a good CCTV / Speed Camera system to STOP
Speeders.
The Island is a bad place for speeding.
That won’t make any difference. Money would be better spent on fitting all cop cars with ANPR.
Speed cameras? He was getting chased by police, but yeah I guess if he got flashed by a speed camera he would have pulled over! Jesus go back to bed mate
William I have lived in many parts of the country and I can tell you
I have never seen a place with Roads that are speed free zones like the Island.
There seems to be NO traffic rules on the Island.
Apart from 1 police van that is fitted with a Camera and sticks out like a saw thumb
and everyone then slows down, there is no speed deterrent.
Traffic calming, ANPR and speed cameras need installing islandwide.
20’s plenty on most Island Roads.
Some of the worst roads I have seen are
Briddlesford Road
Military Road
Middle Road
Brading Road
and Great Preston Road
They are like autobahns.
At last. He drives round Pan in a low gear making as much noise as he can and drives well above the speed limit. Well done, Boys in Blue
Why did you not do something about it before?. Usual Island resident hides behind curtain and does sod all.
What was he supposed to do? Go out and Jump Infront of the car and get hurt? Take the keys away and be arrested for robbery? I don’t think you really thought about that comment did you, whilst you’re ‘hiding behind the curtains’.
Make this piece of filth pay for all the damage his wreckless driving has caused. Why was he running from the Police? Audi S3, something to do with drugs possibly????
I feel sorry for the people who’s cars have been damaged.
Hopefully lock them up for 10yrs,could of killed people out . Those that can’t get to work as car’s are smashed and cost might well put them over edge with cost of living at moment. Selfish w——. Expect our court though will maybe a few points on licence and £85 costs!.
Finish the car off, and crush the driver with it…..
If on benefits they should loose that right and be made to work. Why should those who break the law/do drugs etc then be supported by hard working and honest tax payers?,this country has it’s priorities wrong.
Where in the article does it say anything about benefits, or are you just being a snob?
More bad Audi’s on the Isle Of Wight
There should be a mandatory prison sentence for anyone that is involved with not stopping for police. I expect many people still remember the video of the idiot going across the lights at Yarbridge crossroads!
While I agree with the comments about this piece of scum who probably needs a bit of good old fashioned retribution from the locals instead of the slap on the wrist that he knows he will get, I am not at all surprised that the cars on Robin Hood Street have been damaged because the way the cars are ignorantly parked. I have seen vehicles smaller than ambulances having to just about squeeze through with centimetres between them and the parked cars. It was literally an “accident waiting to happen.”
Shame he didn’t put it into a brick wall or lamppost rather than people’s cars.
I know this car. Definitely dealing drugs.
From looking at the amount of damage, he must have been taking drugs as well…
