Southern Vectis is showing its support for the Royal British Legion – with bus drivers wearing poppies throughout the period of Remembrance.
The local bus company is also allowing drivers to pull over at 11:00 on Sunday 10th, and again on Monday 11th November, as the country pays its respects to the fallen.
Free travel is also being offered on Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day for UK Armed Forces veterans, and those currently serving. All they need to do is display their medals or show military ID when boarding the bus.
Andrew Wickham, Managing Director for Southern Vectis, says:
“People across the Isle of Wight are rightly proud of our country’s military – as is the team here at Southern Vectis. As part of this community, we are keen to show our support for all those in the services.
“We are providing all our drivers and other team members with a poppy to wear, if they wish to do so. For each of these, we will be making a donation to the Royal British Legion.
“The work our troops do and have done, in often unimaginably hostile war zones, is incredibly humbling. And we hope, by proudly displaying our poppies and raising awareness for this worthwhile cause, we’re backing our words with actions”.
