The power of the sun is now helping Waterside Pool to save on its energy usage, after the successful installation of 76 solar panels.
The solar photovoltaic panels will improve the pool’s energy efficiency, helping save more than 6 tons of CO2 emissions annually – the equivalent to planting 1,141 trees in its lifetime.
The panels are expected to generate an estimated 24,000Wh every year, which will help in a small way with the ongoing rise in energy costs.
The project was funded by a successful Sport England grant application.
Todd Miller, General Manager at Waterside Pool, says:
“We are incredibly grateful for the support from Sport England and the Isle of Wight Council, which enables us to future-proof the Centre while staying true to our mission of improving the health and wellbeing of residents.
“This project reflects our dedication to creating a more sustainable future while keeping our facilities affordable and welcoming for everyone.”
The Centre will be closed from 31st March – 6th April to allow their contractors to install a new and more energy-efficient heating system for the pool, further helping to reduce its energy consumption and helping to future-proof the centre for the local community.
Funny as we need co2 for life..
