In an incident reminiscent of an episode of Keeping Up Appearances, a driver who parked on a quiet street in Shanklin has been car shamed by a resident by way of a letter placed on her windscreen.
In an apparently unprovoked move, Littlestairs Road’s answer to Mrs Bucket (pronounced Bouquet, of course!) left the note on the woman’s car, complaining that the Skoda didn’t fit in with the other vehicles in the area, and its presence left the area looking ‘like Beirut’.
Posting the ordeal on Facebook, Julia – the owner of the vehicle, expressed her dismay over the note, which read:
“I hope you don’t mind, but would you kindly not park your vehicle on this road please? This is a nice respectable road and it now looks like Beirut.
“WE don’t drive such vehicles so perhaps you could in future park it somewhere more appropriate. Like the DUMP!”
Despite the nasty nature of the note, Julia seems to have taken the note in good spirits, commenting:
“Because my car isn’t a show off Range Rover or some other 4×4 for popping the kids to & from school…
“Can all my Island friends with slightly rougher, but much loved looking vehicles pop over to Littlestairs Rd in Shanklin and give these t*****s a taste of what Beirut might look like?

Support for the car owner and her trusty Skoda has rolled in on the post, with some posting suggestions of action she could take as a retaliation method, including placing a scrap car on her driveway to add to the scene, and many commenters have even offered to park their worse for wear cars there in solidarity.
It is actually a Volkswagen in the bigger scheme of things
Nothing wrong with a Skoda yeti I have and basically they are a Volkswagen and they own Rolls Royce so let’s park all our yetis up there , snobby lot

I think it is a Skoda “Roomster”, not a Yeyi. I drive a Skoda Octavia Scout – none of my neighbours have complained, yet!
Beirut’s quite nice these days, the place looks more like Gaza to me, without the Mercs.
Biggest issue on Littlestairs Road is WILTONS CAR GARAGE parking all their loan vehicles on Littlestairs Road instead of on their own forecourt!

To be fair, there are always two sides to a story, I would suggest that the person who wrote the note canvass her neighbours and get permission from the council to make it a gated community,thus,keeping the rif raf out, after all, the rich have to live somewhere, they have as much right,if not more to have certain protections,they do pay for this privaledge via their enormous council tax bills!

I used to live in that road until last year. Wiltons garage park all their vehicles in the road making residents who live there impossible to park. People from the main road park there too because they’re too lazy to drive round the back of their property to their own garages. These cars are well known due to personalised registration plates!!! Mrs Bucket shouldn’t have left the note, I’ve seen worse cars, but I can sympathise with her over the parking frustrations.
It’s the same everywhere, people parking in streets they dont live in and making it impossible to park when we come home from work .
Deal with it it’s the world we live in .

Having a user name The Monarch probably says it all for the location. I have known a lot of extremely wealthy people who are very nice. Its the ones who think they have made it in live but not really that successfull. Just a bit sad.

Looking on Google maps on that road,dont know what their moaning at, Toyota’s ,Fords, minis on driveways, one fiat 500 parked on double yellow lines,so dont complain about 1 car. Stop twitching your nets and get on with life

Ask all of the moaners for money to enable you to buy a brand new top of the range electric car to replace yours – I bet they will not even want to put in 1p so therefore if they cannot put their money where their mouth is they had better stay quiet.
