A large tree trunk smouldering away on Shanklin seafront saw a response from Ryde and Shanklin firefighters this morning (Wednesday).
At around 10:40, 1 retained appliance from Shanklin was mobilised to the Esplanade where the single crew located a tree alight on a stretch of beach towards Luccombe.
The assistance of Ryde’s Land Rover 4×4 was soon requested, with the off road vehicle used to pull the object out from within the undergrowth to ensure it could be properly extinguished.
A cordon has since been erected around the area.
The cause is unknown.

Was it an 18 wheeler or just a delivery trunk

Most probably that pain in the arse tramp,(Simon) who was spotted camping down there the other week. He kept setting fire to things when at Ventnor. A group of us did a beach clean a while ago we filled a one ton bag of bottles and beer cans and other rubbish , hidden in the bushes were fire lighters and matches and a saw they had been sawing bits of the groyn to burn and they had a lorry rim for a bbq they had cut down so many young trees
