SMOKE SEEN COMING FROM COLLEGE ROOF SPARKS FIRE RESPONSE


Smoke seen rising from the roof of Carisbrooke College in Newport prompted a large response from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service earlier this morning (Wednesday).

Fearing a large fire within the brand new school building, 3 appliances from Newport, Cowes and East Cowes were mobilised to Wellington Road/Mountbatten Drive at 04:30.

An Aerial Ladder Platfrom and Incident Command Unit from Newport were also sent to the scene.

The first crew on scene were able to quickly establish that the smoke seen rising from the roof top was in fact exhaust fumes from the school’s heating system.

Content that there was no fire present, the fire service stood down all resources.
