Firefighters from Ryde and Newport have responded to reports of a flat fire in Ryde Town Centre this evening (Thursday).
2 appliances are currently on scene at Lind Hill, near the town’s Travelodge, having been called out around 21:30 – with a multitude of sirens heard by Island Echo readers.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus have entered a property equipped with a hose reel jet, however, the situation appears to be under control.
Island Echo is told that smoke was reportedly filling a room.
All persons are understood to be accounted for with a number of people evacuated and stood outside the address.
Lind Street remains open as normal to all traffic.
UPDATE @ 21:45 – Newport’s wholetime appliance has been stood down from the incident, indicating any fire has been extinguished and the situation is well under control.

Strange it is these days when a fire breaks our in a property that is already flats! Our fire brigade does a mighty fine job. A shame they aren’t backed up by the appropriate authorities when properly suspicious blazes occur elsewhere, and nearly kill elderly people. Like in Ventnor recently.
