The smell of sulphur emanating from a boat prompted an emergency call to firefighters in Cowes this evening (Tuesday).
Both retained firefighters from Cowes and Newport’s whole time crew were mobilised to Shepards Wharf Marina at 20:38.
On arrival a search of the vessel revealed that the onboard batteries had run dry causing gases from the chemicals within to escape.
1 hose reel was laid out to provide cover against any potential fire, and the onboard electricity supply was isolated. Crews then ventilated the boat before standing down.
