Ahead of a busy few months of racing all over the country, Shanklin Rowing Club looked to find additional boat speed in their Island-based pre-season training camp over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend.
The idyllic setting of the Folly Inn at Whippingham provided an ideal venue for the waterworks and, when combined with TJs Exercise Studio in Lake for all cross-training classes, ensured the highest possible training quality in a packed 3-day camp.
The club’s coaches, many returning especially from mainland colleges, and a loyal band of volunteers helped combine the needs of a range of rowers, including high-performers, intermediates, juniors and complete beginners.
Guest coaches included Tom Bowles, Hartpury College’s Pathway coach, who enhanced the offer for J16 athletes competing at Nottingham at the weekend in the Junior Inter-Regional Championships.
Blessed with beautiful weather and a stunning location, all athletes were able to benefit from a range of boats and training sessions, culminating in both 1000m and 200m side by side racing on Sunday.
Winners
Div 1 – 1000m J18 2x Louis Sheasby and Ethan Walters
Div 2 – 1000m Mixed Novice Four
Sculls: Izzi Bounds, Arlo Adds and Ollie Hatch.
The club would like to thank the Folly Inn for hosting the event and the team at TJs Exercise Studio in Lake for providing superb cross-training classes each day.
