A serious assault – thought to involve a metal pole – has led to a residential street being cordoned off by Police in Shanklin tonight (Thursday).
Police are currently in attendance on Green Lane, where a small section of the busy road between Wheelers Way and The Rogers has been cordoned off.
Island Echo understands a serious assault took place at around 21:30.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has taken at least 1 person to hospital for treatment, with Police awaiting an update from doctors as to the severity of the situation.
As investigations get underway, a cordon remains in place around the scene of the assault – with a rucksack, cap and metal pole left in situ.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is expected to provide an update on Friday morning.
UPDATE – A 36-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

It is deeply upsetting what is becoming of
this island.
I retired to the island a number of years ago
and it is getting worse each day.
The NHS is struggling and can do without such
incidents taking place.
Persons carrying out such crimes should be forced to
pay the medical fees etc.
What is wrong with these people , the woman is old enough to know better, and the boy is destined for a grim life unless he sorts himself out before it’s too late.
They both need a severe punishment if found guilty.
The Island is losing it’s reputation as a nice place for family holidays, who wants to visit our coastal resorts and be met with this all too common unruly behaviour.
Sad pathetic oxygen thieves. Why is there so much needless violence these days?
