Traffic has now returned to normal.

Was it a scooterist by any chance?
If the glove doesn’t fit you must acquit
It wasn’t a scooter
What difference would it make if it was a scooterist !!! ???
None at all, just wondering as there are a lot of them around at the moment
No s**t Sherlock !
Gosh this is awful. Two accidents already and one fatal
Unsure why the driver had massive gloves unless attending a soccer match or something. Mind May just have large hands.
Hope the innocence rider is ok.
What’s age, sex, oversized gloves have to do with at this stage ?. Hoping biker is ok
Age and oversized gloves, a lot. Former, unfit to be in charge of a motor vehicle, latter compromises grip and handing ability.
Sorry BOB, but age has nothing to do with driving… driving skill is all that is required. LOOK and actually SEE.. was probably the reason for this… did not take the time to actually look/see and think BIKE….
Bad driving is all ages on this Island. Need harder driving test. Also a minimum one to one lessons… before test.
Too many people standing around the roundabout being nosey and causing unnecessary traffic chaos blocking the turning to Tesco for no reason.
I was standing around trying to stop idiots running him over trying to get to Tesco, i was also there as a First Aider and was one of the first on scene
Standing next to or with the casualty was necessary yes, but people purposely blocking the roundabout off with vehicles etc caused a lot of uneccesary chaos. People could clearly see there had been an accident and traffic could have slowly moved safely until emergency services arrived. Thus avoiding the dangerously congested conditions these vehicles were causing.
Whilst it is not nice to see anyone injured, I’ve witnessed too many scooterist riding like idiots, only today 6 jumped the lights at Yarbrigde Cross roads nearly causing an accident if the driver hadn’t stopped when it was his right of way
Yesterday 6 overtook me and a line of cars that had stopped at the Zebra crossing at the top of Union Street. They went straight through nearly wiping out the people crossing. It’s only a few that get the rest a bad name so I’m not having a pop at all scooter riders.
Not a scooterist and not the riders fault
Morrisons roundabout in lake and the one by Merrie gdns, absolute dismal riding by scooterists of all ages, countless near misses with busses, coaches and cars, it’s a wonder there’s not been more accidents.
IT IS THEIR WEEKEND, LET THEM DO WHAT THEY WANT.
Or stay indoors, must say tho, how refreshing to see so many people from all over the country and further , ENJOYING themselves AND having FUN.
Makes a nice change from the bitter small minded no life sad little IW PLEBS, who you normally come into contact with most days.
(PS PLEASE STOP MOANING) Live and let Live………x
It may be their weekend, but they should still be driving with care and attention and follow the highway code. Already one poor guy has had his fun stopped forever. Having fun shouldn’t mean people get injured or killed.
Shame they all drive like idiots with their pathetic kiddy bikes. Lol
does it matter what size his gloves are?
Depends wether or not they contributed to the accident
Yes It does if they impede your ability to drive
Depends on wether or not they contributed towards the accident.
It’s difficult to drive in boxing gloves.
Went past there when the cyclist was on the tarmac being treated. Police started a (pointless) task of directing traffic how to manoeuvre around a roundabout (from the slowdown of traffic and the multiple lights from emergency services at the scene i don’t think it was necessary for a trained copper to be put at light traffic control when everyone within 100m can see what’s happened).
Also “oversized gloves”?
Was he wearing those foam mascot gloves that American Basketball fans love?
If not then in this point of time who has performed finger measurements, taken data analysis of the gloves and reported these findings to the IE?
Not a cyclist, riding a large motorcycle and he was not at fault
He was riding a cycle.
Unicycle
Bicycle
Tricycle
MOTORCYCLE
Still a fookin cycle! So still stand by my comment that he was a CYCLIST.
And in no way did I even say he was at fault!?
Just for clarification, the car pulled out of busy bee into the path of the bike, not the biker’s fault, as for comments that people were standing round looking at what was going on, I was one of the people that was standing around, myself and another man were first on scene and checked the injured man was ok, we were qualified first aiders, then a nurse followed by a GP attended so our roles were to protect the rider from idiots trying to drive to Tesco to do their shopping, he was in the road and cars were driving very close to him and also trying to give him some privacy in a very difficult time. Just to say thank you to all that helped.
Well done to you Lee and everyone who protected this poor man from the constant stream of people going into Tesco in their cars.
All they care about is getting into that place. People have fallen and been lying on the floor having suffered a medical episode and some inconsiderate shoppers just step over them to get what they want. Unbelievable ignorance!
Hope this fella us ok and makes a speedy recovery.
Part of the problem may well be that the bushes and shrubs that separate the north and south bound carriage ways at that point almost completely obscure the visibility of vehicles turning right from the Brading direction or leaving Busy Bee, from the traffic in the straight ahead lane.
Im a biker myself and I’m fully aware that roundabout at Tesco can be hazardous but mainly due to other road users. I use that junction most days and when approached with caution instead of speed there’s plenty of time to access all approaching traffic. Removing the foliage giving a clearer view will only encourage road users to execute manouvers at a higher speed.
Not sure I agree with the bit about executing manouvers at a higher speed.
This roundabout has ‘blind spots’. All the years I have been driving, majority on the mainland, all roundabouts have clear, unobscured vision on every entry and exit junction. I hate this roundabout, it’s dangerous. It’s only a case of reducing the height of the bushes so a clear view can be had by people going straight across or turning right from that lane.
The roads and the roundabout are not dangerous, the drivers are dangerous. always in a hurry, never wanting to stop, or slow right down to get a clear view.. Due care and attention… always…
no problem with that you are suppose to slow down and look, its got nothing to do with plants people need to look in there metal protected cars
You could be crawling round that roundabout to turn right into Tesco, if a numpty enters that roundabout at speed and doesn’t STOP they run a very high risk of T-boning the car coming from the right.
Fact.
Stupid comment again what you talking about a car pulled out in front of the motorcycle due care and attention idiot car driver again
I sent this before Lee Ambler’s explanation had been posted so it’s, obviously, not relevant in this case but, I believe, still a genuine concern.
I think the shrubbery is there as a misguided attempt at traffic management. The ideal being that you have to stop and look rather than having a clear line of sight if the shrubbery wasn’t there.
I totally agree. Those bushes need cutting right down as they do obscure road users vision and it is extremely dangerous.
When I am to to turning right into Tesco, I am always aware of cars potentially pulling out going straight across. Especially people who are not familiar with that junction.
The Council/ Island Roads need contacting about this and they need to make this roundabout safer.
No the plants are there so you slow down and look, there be more accidents if they wasn’t there because people would not slow down and look
Plenty of Ignorant motorists on 2 wheels, pouring out pollution.
Scooter Rally needs to be banned, end of. Lol.
So do you not drive you both pollute it one weekend and you need to be banned for coming out with stupid comments, get a life
More bad driving on the IW
That roundabout is a nightmare.
No one seems to know that you have to give way to the right.
I passed this while the emergency services where tending to the biker. I’m very pleased to read they will be ok.
Now a message to the maniac driver of a 1983 Cream Bentley Mulsanne I observed just past the roundabout towards Beepers Shute & Brading shortly after. I was driving behind you and saw you deliberately driving right across the road into the path on oncoming scooterists making them take emergency action to avoid you hitting them head on, half a dozen times!
You are lucky you are not in cuffs on charges of manslaughter this afternoon. Your actions where insane whatever your grievance is get help before you kill someone.
Wow, that’s appalling.
Glad everyone is ok, well done to all that helped on-scene. I wonder if traffic lights would make the junction more fool-proof, or would it just cause massive tailbacks?
Judging by other traffic lights, and especially the Yarbridge lights which someone else has already mentioned, no they wouldn’t help. Red lights don’t seem to mean the same to road users these days, whether on two wheels or four.
What would help at that roundabout though is better visibility when exiting Busy Bees. You have no clear sight of traffic from the right and if a vehicle is travelling at any speed or not slowing down for the roundabout – and I’m NOT saying that was the case here – then it can be problematic.
Oh my goodness, that is terrible. It’s only £1.66 a litre at Asda!
Perhaps the wearing of boxing gloves didn’t stop the drivers eyesight from failing.
Elderly driver, majority shouldn’t be on the roads over here, enough said
Totally agree. Just retest them ALL at 60….simple. Lol
The Echo has a bit of history with this, making a statement in the article which leaves people with no clear idea of what is meant.
What on earth are ‘oversized gloves’? Boxing gloves? Clown’s gloves? Foam gloves?
If you’re going to write something like this, at least give an explanation otherwise what’s the point of writing it?
Plus, what exactly does ‘elderly’ mean? To a youngster, anyone over 40 is elderly, or are we talking 80-90 years old? Again, it’s just poor journalism to write something which is so vague and which leaves people to make perhaps incorrect assumptions. If you don’t know, don’t write it.
Hope both drivers are ok – maybe the gloves used to fit the car driver in his day! Can’t help laughing at the way these articles are written…..they have their own IW style lol
IW style?
Bumpkin B.S
My gloves are average size, although the misses would disagree.
