Traffic is extremely heavy in the area with The Broadway now closed in both directions – between Station Avenue and Melville Street.

Neither of the mentioned could catch a cold, yet alone an illegal motor.

It is just a bitter woman (pretending to be a man) who objects to the fact it can’t park outside its state supplied council house. As the state pays for the rent, it certainly has no rights to the ownership of the road, but comes from S.A and doesn’t understand our ways.

Can’t say I’m surprised, shocking disregard for road safety from a lot of these moped drivers. riding without crash helmets, undertaking, riding on pavements, what the hell. I guess they are immune to the laws of the road, looks like they are not immune to an accident or two though.

Maybe the Porsche 911 was at fault? Why do you need such a car on your tiny roads

Hope all involved are ok, you can fix a Porsche and a scooter but it’s harder to fix yourself.

I’ve seen a dozen scooterists going the wrong way on a 1 way street, nearly hit several as they went through red lights at various locations, and seen them streaming past cars stopped at zebra crossings and almost hit pedestrians.
Whatever the circumstances here, lets hope the police crack down on some of the dangerous riding going on this weekend. It seems to be a free for all.

I was at the traffic lights in lake yesterday, scooterist drew up on right of me, lights changed, I waited and the idiot cut across in front of me and turned left,
Had I have gone, I would have knocked him off his scooter,
You can’t blame the car drivers, the scooterist are bloody show off idiots who think they own the road and above the law

Are you a KAREN? I’m 57 and ride with a lot of scooterists. We all experienced idiots in cars pulling out and swerving to block overtaking. You give the island a bad name with comments like this.

I drove past a minor collision in Arterton this afternoon and was wondering how did that happen on a very wide road and mostly straight in a thirty speed limit???..

Again the Broadway in Sandown the same thing happened, however, I will be glad when the scuter rally has finished because I have a very sore throat after breathing in all that 2 stroke oil….

More of this will be along next year….drunk and drugged up…

I can barely summon the strength to answer your stupid post.

People like you give the island a really bad name. From all the years I’ve been over here either in a car on foot or on my scooter, I’ve met some really friendly people. However there is still the ageing element of locals who are so insular That they can’t even see past the end of their wagging fingers to understand that we put thousands and thousands of pounds into the island each year. You’ll also not be able to understand that all scooter clubs do a massive amount for charities all around the country.

But then again you are an Islander …..

Car drivers need to pay more attention instead of the old adage “Sorry didn’t see you ” open your eyes and look in the direction you are travelling. I hope the Scooter rider is isn’t too badly injured and makes a full recovery

Have any of these guys idiots cut you up? Jumped the traffic lights and nearly smashed into you? I’ve chosen to stay off of the road this weekend because it’s happened to many times just on Thursday and Friday.. and two or three of them taking up the whole road! I’ll be glad next year when my dashcams are fitted so i can upload the idiotic riding in YouTube

It’s about time the scooters move their August bank holiday weekend to some place that they will be Policed proactively, Or is that the reason they arrive? The Islands infrastructure is unable to provide adequate Policing and Medical facilities to it’s population let alone when the population doubles during the holidays.
I also believe this event is not exactly environmentally friendly as it produces poor air quality for both islanders and visitors. We need to be promoting healthy living and lifestyles to encourage visitors.

Are scooter riders not visitors then ?
Or does every visitor have to be vetted by bigots like you ?

If your vehicle is producing high amounts of fumes, you need to be getting points out on your license, as you know your vehicles catalyst converter isn’t working you should know better. Disgusting. I would love to do some criminal damage to your bike.

A vehicle, regardless of the type, only has to have a catalytic converter if it was fitted at the factory as standard.
An exhaust marked “pre-1985 motorcycle only” is also a legal exhaust system; this stamping covers older classic motorcycles exempt from current emissions regulations.
I would suggest that you read up on the law before making wrong statements.

I’ve seen quite a lot of the scooters riding like absolute idiots over the weekend even had a few near misses especially when they’re cutting corners on blind bends the problem is there are to many of them riding without helmets or just in shorts and tee-shirts. But seriously I hope all involved in this accident are ok

Roll on Monday when most of these mindless scooter riding on idiots go back to the mainland. 11am, scooters parked outside of pubs. Riders p’ing up… how many have been breathalysed?? While we are on the subject of drinking.! When are red funnel and wightlink going to stop serving alcohol to drivers travelling to the island??

I had a lovely weekend with my husband and his scooter. Do not tar us all with the same brush. Let’s think about the poor lady who was knocked off her scooter, I saw her on the ground, it was shocking to see.

Most are courteous and considerate.
Some – break the law and are dangerous.
Its never ever ALL scooterists, or ALL car drivers, or ALL cyclists. Its a few idiots who give the rest a bad name.

Agreed – I have driven extensively on the Island this weekend and had a lot of interaction with scooter riders and none of the nonsense mentioned above has happened to me – I strongly suspect most of the stories are made up by the usual hate everything low iq islanders

I’m glad they got very specific with th model of the Porsche. It’s important to avoid and Porsche based confusion. What make and model was the scooter?

You don’t need a second home to afford a 10k car. Just a job. All education / jobs are online now, no excuse to keep up with the rest of the UK anymore <3

Don’t need a second home to own a 20k car.. nor is it “Flash”. You’ve got the internet now with infinite resources and online job roles, no excuse to be a waste of space on this island anymore. Get your own money instead of judging others with money.

Nightmare yesterday trying to get to the Hover. Scooterists coming onto the roundabout bottom of Union Street without looking or checking from the traffic from the right. Coming off the grass into the road between the pedestrians – pushing their way through instead of waiting to make sure they didn’t clip anyone or ride over small feet. Arrogance, ignorance or holiday brain are NOT excuses people. If you can’t obey the rules of the road, or even common courtesy, don’t come!
