UPDATED: Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a fire on Pan estate in Newport this evening (Tuesday).
Crews were called to the residential property on Royal Exchange at around 18:20 following reports of a fire within the kitchen.
2 appliances from Newport and Cowes are now on scene and firefighters have entered the property wearing breathing apparatus.
It is understood a saucepan has sparked the alert as a result of being left unattended on a cooker.
UPDATE @ 18:56 – 1 fire appliance from Cowes is now standing down from the incident and is returning to station.
It is said that the kitchen has sustained some damage as a result of the fire.
Crews are now working to ventilate the smoke-logged property.
UPDATE @ 19:44 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has now stood down from the incident.
It has been confirmed that 2 breathing apparatus and 1 hosereel were used to bring the situation under control.
Firefighters have fitted new smoke detectors at the property.
