The Isle of Wight Table Tennis Association league matches for the week ending 24th October 2025 saw strong performances across all 3 divisions, with Ryde C maintaining their unbeaten run in Division 1 and Wroxall Warriors A rising to the top in Division 3.
Division 1
League leaders Ryde C recorded another convincing win, defeating Havenstreet A 8-2. Roger Hookey impressed for Havenstreet, taking two wins, including a five-set victory over top-ranked Paul Rainford. Ryde’s Ryan Cates remained untroubled, continuing his flawless season without dropping a set.
Ryde A also secured an 8-2 victory, this time against Ryde Rankers. The Rankers’ Hugh Idle unexpectedly lost 2 singles matches – one to Scott Lawson in the match of the night, and the other to Mark Turner.
Elsewhere, Ryde B claimed a 7-3 win over Ryde Goshawks. Tim Giles was unbeaten and named player of the match for the B team, while Don Hobbs managed two wins for the Goshawks, including a notable victory over highly ranked Alex Rorke. Ryde B now sit third in the table behind Ryde C and Ryde A.
Division 2
Newport Vics A and Ryde Retailers both picked up important wins as they continue to challenge for the top spot. Vics A beat Ryde Rovers 8-2, while Retailers came out 7-3 winners against Ryde Rogues.
Ryde Rising Stars played 2 matches during the week. In a closely contested match against Newport Vics B, the Rising Stars lost 6-4 despite captain Tom Waddell remaining unbeaten and pushing Paul Freeborn to five sets. Cadet Theo Lewis was unlucky to lose two matches in five sets but managed a win over Chris Firth.
Their second match brought a stronger result – an 8-2 win over Shorwell Sinners. Theo Lewis was unbeaten, and alongside Thane Taylor, also secured the doubles.
Division 3
Wroxall Warriors A are top of the table after an 8-2 win over Cowes Baptists. Cowes’ John Featherstone took both singles for his side.
Wroxall Legendary Lizards edged a close match 6-4 against Ryde Raiders. Ryde’s Kevin Fraser was named player of the match for his unbeaten performance, but Wroxall’s experience saw them through.
Elsewhere, Ryde Odd Balls dominated with a 10-0 win over Wroxall Warriors C, while Wroxall Warriors B secured a 6-4 victory against Shorwell Saviours.
