Key areas of Ryde School, including its curriculum, pastoral care and respectful culture, have been praised following a successful inspection.
In a report published on Friday, the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), which visited in September, said Ryde School met all statutory requirements.
Its ‘wide-ranging and engaging’ curriculum, ‘highly effective’ pastoral care and work to promote a culture of mutual respect were all highlighted.
Pupils, teachers and leaders were also recognised by inspectors.
Will Turner, Head Master, has said:
“The school can take great pride in meeting all standards in this rigorous inspection.
“The inspection covered areas of leadership, management and governance, quality of education, wellbeing, safeguarding, and boarding.
“The result is validation of the continued dedication of our staff and governors and the hard work of our pupils.
“This is a wonderful affirmation of our values of Ambition, Responsibility, Courage and Respect and I wish to thank all parents and guardians for the continued support they give the School.
“I look forward to building on this successful report and maintaining an outstanding education for all our pupils.”
The ISI is a government-approved inspectorate, responsible for inspecting independent schools in England.
ISI reports provide a detailed, evaluative narrative and determine whether schools meet or do not meet the Independent School Standards across all areas.
Unlike Ofsted inspections, it does not carry an overarching outcome and there is no grading system within the ISI framework.
At Ryde School, inspectors said pupils in all years behaved well and demonstrated values of mutual respect and collective responsibility.
They were respectful of differences and understood the importance of treating people equally, the report said.
Pupils were also described as self-aware, articulate and thoughtful about their contribution to the school, with caring staff supporting pupils’ emotional and mental health.
The report recognised the school’s impressive GCSE, A-level and International Baccalaureate results over recent years, and said knowledgeable teachers provided well-structured and enjoyable lessons.
In the Early Years, staff were described as understanding children’s needs and interests, which helped to create opportunities for them to explore and enjoy learning. As a result, children developed their skills effectively across all areas.
English, Maths and Sciences were all complemented by the inspectors, and the ‘ambitious’ curriculum for Modern Languages, where pupils were introduced to four different languages, was strongly noted.
Ryde School was delighted to receive only two recommendations to assist its continued drive for educational excellence.
