Southern Housing’s extra care scheme in Ryde has been highly commended at this year’s Great British Care Awards for the South East region.
Held on Friday 15th November, the awards honour some of the most incredible people and teams working in social care, celebrating excellence in the sector. The team at Ryde Village received a ‘highly commended’ award in the ‘housing with care’ category, for excelling in delivering person centred care to help residents remain living independently.
The award recognises how the team have worked collaboratively to encourage residents to make decisions about their home, community, support and care, and engage with activities.
They’ve also supported residents to develop a resident led on-site shop, gardening club and join a specialist advisory panel, representing other residents to have a voice about the services they receive. In addition, they’ve ensured residents have access to a range of services, including an Alzheimer’s café, a local Aspire community project, and participating in swimming and singing clubs.
Naomi Keyte, Director of Care and Independent Living at Southern Housing said:
“I’m incredibly proud of the team at Ryde Village. This award recognises their commitment to putting residents at the heart of the service and responding to daily challenges with positivity and enthusiasm.”
In June 2024, Southern Housing carried out an annual quality of life survey with residents at Ryde Village. 93% said they have control over their daily life and 94% said they felt safe. These results significantly surpass the UK and local sector, who benchmarked between 69% and 75% respectively.
In the survey, residents said:
“The way I am helped and treated makes me think and feel better about myself” and “I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the wellbeing staff, they are lovely.”
