UPDATED: Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision on Whippingham Road on the outskirts of East Cowes this morning (Monday).
The incident has taken place on the A3021 – the main road in and out of East Cowes – near to the Racecourse Roundabout.
Island Echo readers report that the road is currently blocked and that traffic is backed up to Folly Lane heading out of the town. Motorists should divert via Brocks Copse Road to Wootton.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene alongside Police colleagues. They were called at around 07:42.
Southern Vectis say their Route 4 and 5 buses are currently unable to serve East Cowes. Passengers needing to reach East Cowes are advised to take the Route 1 to Cowes and then use the floating bridge.
UPDATE @ 07:54 – It is understood that 1 person has been injured in this morning’s crash, although those injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Traffic is said to be backing up along Racecourse and Fairlee Road heading out of Newport, whilst traffic heading in the opposite direction is backing up Lushington Hill. Motorists should avoid the area for the time being.
Southern Vectis have updated to say their school bus Routes 333, 321 and SEN4 are unable to serve East Cowes.
UPDATE @ 09:22 – 1 person has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital as a result of the 2-car crash between an Audi and a Peugeot.
