A road traffic collision has occurred on Blackwater Road near to Newclose Cricket Ground on the outskirts of Newport this morning (Friday).
Traffic is currently building in the area as emergency services deal with the incident.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene at around 11:30 where it is reported a car collided with the rear of a lorry, resulting in the car coming to rest in a hedge.
Paramedics are treating 2 occupants of the car – a male and a female – for minor injuries.
Queues are reported to be as far as Asda roundabout and past Blackwater Junction in the opposite direction. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Southern Vectis is advising of delays to its routes 2 and 3 as a result.
“Owing to an accident along Blackwater road, routes 2 and 3 may suffer delays while emergency vehicles and crews attend.”
UPDATE @ 12:15 – Police have tweeted to say Blackwater Road is passable, although traffic is slow in the area.
The driver of the Ford has suffered minor injuries.
Recovery of the vehicle by Stag Lane Motors has been arranged. The lorry has been moved from the point of collision.
