UPDATED: A road traffic collision has caused a main road in and out of Newport to become blocked this evening (Sunday).
Emergency services are in attendance near to the Island Riding Centre on Staplers Road/Whiterails Road, between Wootton and Newport.
The road has been closed by Police from Wootton Common roundabout and the junction with Blacklands Lane.
The single-vehicle incident occurred shortly after 21:00.
Southern Vectis buses will be on diversion for the foreseeable future until the scene has been cleared. Route 9 will divert via Briddlesford Road and Long Lane in both directions. Stops from Landscape Lane to Wootton Common will not be served.
UPDATE 21:30 – Southern Vectis has tweeted to say the 21:25 route 9 from Ryde to Newport, via Fairlee Road has been withdrawn.
The next service from Ryde will be at 21:40. They apologise to all affected.
UPDATE @ 22:05 – The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have now deployed 2 ambulances to the scene to check over the occupants of the car. They are not thought to be seriously injured.
The crashed vehicle – a VW Golf – has rolled onto its roof, narrowly missing a telegraph pole.
Stag Lane Motors are currently working to recover the car after which the road is expected to re-open.
UPDATE @ 22:43 – 2 males have escaped injury and have made their own way home.
The vehicle has been recovered but the road remains closed. It is expected to re-open shortly.
