A 31-year-old man from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of assault after Police came across an altercation in Haylands this afternoon (Tuesday).
Officers patrolling the area on the south side of Ryde came across the incident at the side of the road near Salters Road just after 15:00.
Hampshire Constabulary, which sent 4 units to the scene, has confirmed that a 31-year-old from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He is currently in custody at Newport Police Station.
A removals van was left with officers at the scene, with some traffic delays in the area for a time.

NAME AND SHAME? WHY NOT?
Surely the breaking news story here isn’t the altercation but the fact that there are actually officers that still patrol??!!!
There was a guy of about that age walking along the seafront today, talking to himself getting quite agitated? Wonder if it was him, very odd behaviour
I very much doubt that
You are describing half of the population of Ryde for f’s sake….lol.
Whaaat?! Weirdos everywhere currently!
There is a lot of altercations due to the very limited parking at Salters road.
I expect it has something to do with that.
This road is narrow and has very vulnerable children and adults using it to get to Haylands Farm.
Yellow lines must be installed to prevent a continuation of ever worsening problems and traffic wardens need to patrol to ensure that no one is illegally parked before some joey is injured.
Double yellow lines are due to be placed around the turning area near Haylands Farm as item 23 of the District 3 Traffic Reulation Order review. Probably in August as comments about the change are accepted up to 29th July. (see “https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/TRO3ryde”). A “Keep Clear” notification is only advisory now and cars are always parked in it.
Cracking photo’, Island Echo! I love it when the Peelers snap the old blue vinyl gloves on like that. Nice smile too: friendly, but firm.
Maybe she’s a 1st aider and offering prostrate checks whilst in the neighbourhood?
There are regular altercations and gesturing on the northern end of Upton Road before the chicane -drivers, e scooters and cyclists speed up and down the road and don’t give way, it is very difficult to get on and off your drive particularly since there is no pavement
Seen several near misses with pedestrians when impatient drivers try to pass at the chicane and this is a main route to school.
It’s the Same Van that was in the Oakfield stabbing report yesterday, coincidence or maybe not?
Nothing to do with the stabbing
police need to patrol at night idiots driving round there and west street at speed all night
Well typical man and van man thinks he knows it all, I won’t be using Carters for my removals, get a professional removals company. Should know better at his age, grow up! . Yes think Oakfield resident says it all!!!.
