Motorists travelling between Yarmouth and Freshwater are being urged to take extra care this morning (Tuesday) as a result of a lorry blocking part of the road after colliding with a stone wall.
The Renault delivery lorry has come into contact with a wall on the nearside on Hallets Shute.
The vehicle has sustained frontend damage as a result and is unable to continue, coming to rest on a blind bend.
Vehicles are having to take extreme care when passing the vehicle near The Westbay.
Friends of Freshwater Fire Station have shared the photos as a warning to motorists in the interests of road safety.
Police have been informed.

Judging by the choice of vehicle I find it unlikely this is an Islander. More likely somebody doing a delivery just got off the boat

We see the same stories day in day out on this island. The driving instructors must be on drugs like most people there.
What is wrong with this island. The people have gone crazy. The drivers have always been bad. Crime has gone out of control. The police are nowhere to be seen. Shops are dropping dead like flies in Newport. There is a massive housing crisis. Almost everyone has turned to drugs or drink. The island is basically like a fourth world country.

Right up by the blind entrance / exit to West Bay where they are about to build 25 houses for second home owners (residential houses, not holiday lets). Island Roads state they will cause 33% more traffic on Hallets Shute…..
I suppose when a lycra gets squished the powers that be may take notice.

If you look at the relative position between the HGV and the white line you will see the perennial problem .
The island roads are not suitable for 40 ton HGVs weight wise and width wise.
Even a bus coming the other way is a squeeze on this road.
Most Islanders know this and drive accordingly, most overners and boy racers don’t…hence the accident rates.
One wheel on the road edge and it will give way due to the way most roads are constructed. I have had the road edge give way on me whilst squeezing over for a dustcart in Atherfield. Luckily I was able to reverse out in that case.
Just to big for Island roads, at least he opted for the wall rather than a vehicle coming the other way,
My Husband was a HGV driver and drove for 43yrs a 40ft lorry and this is easy to happen they do long hrs please don’t blame them if you don’t know what happened without them our shops would be empty
Totally agree Lyn. There are no allowances for HGvs over here. Woe betide anyone meeting an HGV and going too fast. Something has to give and all HGV drivers are professional drivers. They know the risks and the results if they get stuff wrong.
When I used to bring my children over here for holidays, there was a big sign at Fishbourne. It was a warning sign saying
ISLAND ROADS ARE DIFFERENT.

Of course you can’t tell what was coming down the other way, and how it was positioned. The lorry driver may have avoided a serious accident.
Trucks are needed to deliver goods here, not easy controlling these vehicles let’s see if the wingers could actually drive one they can’t even drive there cars properly, maybe they should use 2 smaller trucks for deliveries but then that’s double the cost on already high food prices
