A residential road in Cowes has been closed following the emergence of a sinkhole this afternoon (Friday).
Island Roads has closed South Road whilst they – and Southern Water – investigate the extent of a void that has appeared in the middle of the carriageway.
Traffic is unable to use the road until it is deemed safe once again.
This news comes just a few weeks after the discovery of a sinkhole on Quay Street in Newport, just outside the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
It is unclear as to how long it will take to investigate and repair the defect.
The road remains closed until further notice.

Interesting you said 10 to look, another 5 and numerous other agencies it may just get patched up by Christmas ,then need doing again in the new year
Hardly worth the Toads time they don’t even bother over potholes eroded drain covers and road subsidence ten times the size of this.

I’ve just watched the film, ‘War of The Worlds’ with Tom Cruise in it. That sinkhole looks similar to the holes in the ground in the movie.

The question people should be asking is where has our extortionate tax money been going for the last 35 years as all of these deteriorating roads is due to the fact that the useless council has not lifted a finger to maintain our roads in that time but they have still been extorting money from us under themask of tax’s oddly all these local politicians and councilors have all become rich in the same time frame hmmm I wonder were they have been putting our money oh there it is on their personal bank accounts the corrupt scum bags
