Yarmouth RNLI was tasked to assist a sailing yacht with engine difficulty yesterday (Thursday).
Crew pagers sounded at 14:59 to a vessel 2.5 nautical miles west of The Needles Lighthouse with 6 persons on board which had suffered machinery failure.
The RNLI crew were alongside the casualty vessel by 15:31 and once on scene, quickly accessed the situation and the decision was made to secure a towline to the casualty vessel and begin a passage back towards Yarmouth.
The RNLI Lifeboat 17-25 Eric and Susan Hiscock, Wanderer was met by Sea-Start 5 who then planned to tow the casualty vessel to Lymington Harbour.
Yarmouth RNLI returned to station and was marked as ready for service at 17:05.
