Cowes RNLI lifeboat was paged by HM Coastguard this morning (Tuesday) to assist a kite surfer who had lost his board off Lepe Spit, on the New Forest shore.
Having launched at 11:08, the lifeboat headed out into a grey, gusty and rough Solent and, despite the conditions, quickly arrived at the reported scene, 400 yards off the spit.
It was seen that the kite surfer had managed to self-recover to shore.
Once it was established that all was well with the man, the Coastguard were informed and the lifeboat was stood down at 11:28, returning to station, shortly after 12:00

Really stupid kite surfing in a major storm, putting others lives at risk.
