Fire crews are working alongside paramedics to rescue an injured individual from a quarry near Newchurch this afternoon (Saturday).
2 appliances from Newport and 1 appliance from Ryde – including the Rescue Tender – are currently in attendance at Knighton Sandpit, alongside several resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – and Police.
Fire control says that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was called at 11:49 this morning to assist their blue light colleagues with the rescue of an injured person from a quarry.
Island Echo understands that an Isle of Wight Motorcycle Club event is taking place at the sandpit today, although it remains unclear as to whether the injured party is a competitor, spectator or someone unconnected with the event.
The quarry on Lower Knighton Lane is frequently used by different motorsport clubs.
UPDATE @ 12:45 – 1 individual has been transferred into an awaiting ambulance and is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, although their injuries are not thought to be life-changing or life-threatening.
All other resources have now stood down from the incident.
The IOWMCC event continues as normal.
UPDATE @ 14:00 – It has been confirmed that a mainland rider taking part in the event suffered a fall whilst undertaking one of the trials, resulting in an injury to his knee.

If you run the risk of injury. You need to pay insurance to pay for the service that you get from having 3x fire pumps plus 3x ambulance units. I think if you was a old person and had a nasty fall you will be lucky to get any attention for about 2 hours. I no I have seen it here.
They pay insurance through the club plus acu to be able to take part in any event
Over the top. Bull
