Technical issues with Red Funnel’s Red Jet 7 continue to cause disruption to the hi-speed service between West Cowes and Southampton this morning (Tuesday).
Last night it was announced that Red Jet 7 would re-enter service today on just 3 engines, meaning a 2-boat service will be in operation where possible.
However, the 08:15 and 09:15 sailings from Southampton and the 08:45 and 09:45 sailings from West Cowes have been cancelled this morning, alongside the 18:15 and 19:15 sailings from Southampton and the 18:45 and 19:45 sailings from West Cowes tonight.
It has been confirmed that an exhaust bellow has prematurely failed – a vital part of the engine exhaust system. Engineers are working to resolve the situation and get Red Jet 7 back to full service.
Red Funnel has also confirmed that yesterday’s service was further disrupted as Red Jet 6 was running on just 3 engines, resulting in a longer journey time of 30 minutes.
Red Jet 4 is out of service for annual maintenance.
A spokesperson for Red Funnel has said:
“We would once again wish to apologise to everyone sailing with us today for the inconvenience this unexpected situation has caused. We feel your frustration.
