St Mary’s Hospital has issued reassurance that general surgery continues for both planned and emergency care, despite recently cancelling operations amid a recruitment struggle. An Island Echo reader got in touch to express concern about having their operation cancelled on the day it was due to take place back in October. They were told that a surgeon suddenly left the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, leading to the cancelled op. The patient was told that another surgeon was expected to start in December but that it was an unconfirmed appointment. Steve Parker, Medical Director at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, has said that the hospital continues to provide a general surgical service on the Island delivering both planned and emergency care. There has been some suggestion of staffing issues as recruitment is ‘ongoing across the Trust’. Mr Parker has said:
“Occasionally we sometimes need to rearrange surgery at short notice. We appreciate that this can be frustrating for patients waiting for treatment. “Recruitment is ongoing across all areas of the Trust, and we are working closely with our acute partners at Portsmouth University Hospitals NHS Trust to ensure our patients continue to get the best possible care as quickly as possible.”
Too many things old farts take up so much time for are great nhs
Getting old is not a reason to be blamed for the ills in the NHS , you may think differently when you get old.
Most old people at least know difference between the use of the words “our” and “are” !
To many wokes going for trivial problems that are slowing the whole system down.
Sadly many of us have things wrong with us, due to the failings of the NHS. They only took 30 years to find out I have an incurable lung disease and 52 years to find I had a hip a condition since birth. I am not woke and nor are many others who have been failed by the NHS.

Too many managers standing around though and hiding away. The highest spend on the hospital proudly on display as you walk in is “I.T.” why? £21.5 million on computers, that won’t link to other systems no doubt, just so the managers can hide even more and bring in ridiculous new rules.
Each 5 minutes interaction with a patient is 10 mins of bureaucracy on the computer, the nhs needs reviewing, let’s get back to patient care & charge people £10 in A&E.
I keep seeing this idiotic “charge for A&E” idea cropping up.
Utterly stupid. While it may put off some time wasters, it will also put off those genuinely in need, who may then become seriously ill, costing the NHS significantly more that the relatively few time wasters cost.
So that’s why we have been trained not to expect a gp to see patients in the flesh – so the patient will go to A&E in desperation and be used as a cash cow!!!
We have paid into this Poorly run organisation all our lives and
are now receiving 3rd world treatment.

Must of read my mind, wonder how many will try and sue Prison Service for disstres and upset. Inmate starting fire should now get life for endangering prison officers and have fire appliances tied up unable to help public if needed.

Shame the fire service wasn’t too busy to attend, would have been one less problem for society.
Most cell doors at Parko have a small disc/plug in the middle of them that can be removed without opening the door. So remove the plug, stick the fire hose in for 10mins (towel wedged at bottom of door optional), go have a cuppa and pop plug back in later. Sorted! Honestly, all this molly coddling.
