A crash involving a VW Touran and a Land Rover Freelander has forced the closure of one of the main roads into Ryde this morning (Monday), leading to significant travel delays.
Police officers, firefighters and paramedics are all on scene at Pellhurst Road, between the junctions of Queen’s Road and Argyll Street.
The crash occurred at around 10:05 and has seen the Touran go into the back of the Freelander.
The female passenger of the VW is being assisted from the vehicle by fire crews from Ryde, working alongside their blue light colleagues. Both vehicles involved in the collision have been stabilised.
Pellhurst Road has been closed in both directions with traffic being diverted into Ryde via Queen’s Road. Outbound traffic is having to divert via Swanmore and Haylands due to the one-way closure of Queen’s Road.
UPDATE – The road has now been cleared and has re-opened in both directions.

What happened to just swapping insurance details and moving on. What a chaotic situation for a rear end shunt.
Exactly what I thought! Bizarre
Because the lady involved was severely injured. They had to remove the back of her car to be able to move her into the ambulance, so I’m assuming she was unable to move.
Mmmm maybe after a 30 mph rear end with the car in front in gear and handbrake on.Puling a fast one?
That was my question too. Ok, we don’t know the exact details but I’m sure if there were serious casualties it would have been reported. Instead we have a ‘rear end shunt’ which apparently requires ‘Police officers, firefighters and paramedics all on scene’ and a diversion around Ryde.
Two fire engines and the road closed? It all seems a bit overkill to be honest. I’m just surprised no-one thought to put up some temporary traffic lights, they seem to be deployed at every opportunity these days too.
Trouble is whiplash claims just swapping details and driving away isn’t going to earn you a £3000 whiplash claim
Whiplash claims have now been capped at £250
Another BAD driver, not paying attention to what’s in front !!…
Must be painful being rear-ended lol
The country have been rear ending us for the last 2 and 1/2 years
KY will sort that
It’s dangerous out there now,due care and attention needed , your driving so drive safely
This doesn’t seem to be a bad accident, not to warrant closing the road and diverting traffic anyway. I bet this caused major tailbacks. If both vehicles could be driven and nobody was hurt, just pull off the road, swap insurance details and be in your way. At worst, the car that ran into the back of Land Rover might have busted it’s radiator but it could still have been moved off the carriageway by driving it a short distance!
More tailgating idiots will be along soon…
More idiots will be along soon to say that more idiots will be along soon.
What a plonker….
I blame the Audi driver
Look forward and don’t tailgate…
Concentrate on the road ahead ..
As a bus driver said to me once read the road and look to the next page …then you will be a safe driver !!!!!
You can’t concentrate on the road if you’re putting your lippy on.
This lot of idiots haven’t any understanding of what you are saying, probably won there licence in a raffle….
My driving instructor told me that everybody is out to crash into you. Then went onto explain, see that red car pulling out, thinks he can make the gap, he wont. Always read the road as everybody is out to crash into you. Think ahead. worked for me. 45 years later no crash, or near miss. simples.
More bad driving on the IW
I came past just after it had happened. The cars were attached to each other and drivers were trying to detach them to no avail. It wasn’t just a simple rear-end
Unfortunately the VW was trapped under the rear of the Landrover, effectively immobilizing both vehicles In the road. Traffic built up really quickly and the poor folks involved couldn’t do a thing so probably had to call the authorities. The lady passenger in the rear vehicle was also injured.
Why does it need half a dozen police and goodness knows how many firemen to attend a minor accident? Still at least I now know what a policeman looks like-first ones I’ve seen for years.
