Firefighters from Newport and Southsea are tackling a grass fire in Gunville on the outskirts of Newport this afternoon (Thursday).
2 appliances are on scene at Taylor Road, next to Argos, where an area around 30x10m in size has been charred by flames.
Concerned residents raised the alarm at around 15:35.
Firefighters are dowsing the area with water to extinguish the flames and damp down the grasses area so it doesn’t reignite.
Southsea firefighters are manning a spare appliance based out of Ryde this afternoon.
Today’s incident comes just days after a similar fire on the same stretch of road, close to Carisbrooke College.

Change of scenery for the Southsea team this is what being a combined fire authority is all about – moving personnel to cover where needed
wouldn’t it be more prudent to resource the island properly first? I’m not to sure how the fire brigade works it’s cover out, but it seems that the mainland engines are here more & more these days for smaller fires etc, were we short staffed under IWCC control? are our local engines & stations fully staffed?
Not even close to being fully manned
Only five more weeks of it, before they try to educate them enough to be able to sign on and have a child to gain a life of no work, and scamming at our expense.
mainland firefighters? concerning to say the least!
The fire is out now, so no stopping the Argos deliveries. ‘Good to Go’
