Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones has named Scott Chilton as her proposed appointment for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary’s next Chief Constable.
Scott is the current Chief Constable for Dorset Police, a position he has held since July 2021.
PCC Donna Jones said:
“After a comprehensive selection process I am delighted to announce Scott Chilton as my preferred candidate to be appointed as the next Chief Constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.
“Scott is a highly experienced senior police officer and I am very much looking forward to working closely with him as I continue to deliver on my Police and Crime Plan and support the force to provide an outstanding service to the public.”
The appointment is subject to a confirmation hearing by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary Police and Crime Panel who will review the PCC’s proposed appointment.
The confirmation hearing is expected to take place on 21st November.
This week’s announcement comes after Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney announced in September that she would be retiring from policing in Spring 2023.
Who is Scott Chilton?
Scott started his policing career in Hampshire in 1992 where he worked his way through uniformed policing. He joined CID in 1996 and spent the following 16 years as a detective progressing through the ranks to Assistant Chief Constable, where he was strategic lead across all investigations teams, custody, the wider criminal justice system and intelligence.
He left Hampshire in 2020 to take up the role of Deputy Chief Constable for Dorset Police before being appointed as Dorset’s Chief Constable in July 2021.
Scott Chilton was chosen following an intensive formal application and interview process, in accordance with national regulations.

Perhaps he would like to make his home on the Isle of Wight to fully understand the issues we have here?
Where does he stand on equal policing for all, over protection of marginal political groups, rainbow police cars, naughty tweets and gender ideology? An answer to these questions would show if he will go after real criminals that fight back and harm society or old ladies armed with a keyboard.
from comments on a news site in the bournemouth area about the police under chilton…
.”Actually responding to calls regarding burglaries, car thefts, vandalism, assaults, drug dealing etc etc would be a good start”
and
“We can but hope that our drippy woke police actually do what they say.”

no wonder donna supports him – clearly they have had enough of him in dorset and there won’t be any changes here under him.
i read about him and the dorset police advances in hate crime..if hes so great why chess piece him here?..we don’t need crime advisors, we need an IW police force…dorset hate crime up 400% in 10 years, that means the ‘mean tweets’ dept is definately fluffing that statistic, odd how the hate crime stats run paralel with a certain ideology…mis pronouning offences possibly?..never mind at least everything woke turns to sh..
Excuse me me if I am being stupid, but shouldn’t we have and isle of wight person in charge of isle of wight matters. Someone from Dorset will NOT have the islands interests at heart ever, did Donna Jones, no, so this will be the same thing all over again. She had her cash out of us. Stupid idead from the highest level.
he’ll do a couple of years, get the index linked huge pension then say “I’m retiring”, you wait & see!
Another one on the gravy train.
I find it hilarious that she can make these decisions despite having absolutely no police experience, just a very expensive and pointless waste of space, the money wasted on her empire could provide several more beat officers.
Quite agree, didn’t realise the role included appointing a Chief Constable, ludicrous.
Originally a position to replace expensive ‘Watch Committees’ It’s now a 17 strong organization costing more than Watch Committees ever did.
Ch Const Chilton has been in post in Dorset for just over a year. What makes Hants and IW so appealing?
Lets hope he’s never been in the MET
Unfortunately since the date of creation our Police Force has gone downhill. There are more “criminals” in the Police than in society in some areas. The whole organisation needs a deep clean and retraining as to what their duties are.
Wonder if he’ll regurgitate all the rallying cries he must’ve made when he arrived at Dorset Police. You know the usual – I’m honoured to take on the role of Chief Constable Plod, I’m gonna do this, I’m gonna do that, integrity, inclusiveness, transparency and probity, I’m in it for the long haul etc etc.
So 15 months later. . . ‘I’m off, can’t hang around. Need money, need bigger pension’.
