Students in Years 7 to 10 at Lift Ryde are being taught remotely this week as urgent repairs are carried out to the school’s water pump system, which may see the emergency installation of portaloos and temporary sanitation facilities.
It has been confirmed that only students in Years 11, 12 and 13 – all of whom are currently undertaking mock examinations – are being allowed to attend school in person while the issue is ongoing.
The school has stated that its site team, along with external contractors, have been working tirelessly to resolve the issue, but due to the complex nature of the repairs, a full reopening after the Christmas break has not yet been possible.
Students in Years 7 to 10 have been moved to online learning via Google Classroom, with parents receiving regular updates from the school.
A spokesperson for Lift Ryde has said:
“We are keeping parents regularly updated and are exploring every possible option, including the emergency hire and installation of portaloos and temporary sanitation facilities. The freezing conditions mean that it has not been possible to secure a solution for the full capacity of students on site.
“We are working hard to open the school and have apologised to families for the disruption and inconvenience to them. Our primary concern remains the safety and wellbeing of all our students and staff.”
It is not yet known when full on-site teaching will resume.
