A hairdressing salon that has stood in a well-known Shanklin location for over 20 years could be turned into flats.
Booty Hair and Beauty Salon, on Cross Street, will be closing imminently as its owner retires, planning documents submitted to the Isle of Wight Council have said.
The salon’s new owner, Jonathan Platt, is seeking permission to turn the space on the ground floor of Corinthian Court into 4 flats.
They would be split into 3x 1-bedroom and 1x 2-bed apartments, potentially adding to the existing flats already above the hairdressers.
In justifying the change of the retail space into residential, Andrew White Planning Consultancy said it is the most efficient way of re-purposing the unit and efforts to sell the business had fallen through.
Currently, the layout of the salon is extensive and has a fragmented internal layout which is not ideal for alternative commercial uses, the agents said, especially with the number of other vacant commercial buildings in the town centre.
Minor alterations are proposed to the exterior of the building, changing the front doors and blocking up a set of windows.
You can view the application, 22/01920/FUL, on the council’s planning portal. Comments can be made until 2nd December.

An ugly looking building, were the builders drunk when building them.
Another ugly building the flats where Wight City used too be.
They are an eyesore.
My late husband was involved the construction of that building. Builders are not responsible for the design that is the architect they just follow the plans they are given. In answer to your question he was almost certainly drunk . I didn’t know him at the time that was built but he told me once he was given assurances that the materials used wouldn’t discolour although they obviously did.He was a very talented bricklayer but never happy with that building.
I’m sure they will be highly desirable apartments. On the main toad, right next to a busy junction!!
I’m sure they will be able to have their windows open 24/7!!
Vehicles park 24/7 over the Road on corner of Regent street in Loading Bay
They are doomed
Well looking at the plans, two of them wont even have any windows as such. Who would want to live there? Wasnt this the guy that lost that court case with the council?
No this was the guy who had the council tucked up in his back pocket, the one who opened fat Harry’s in sandown, when there are other food premises in the area, no consideration for the owners of the flats above, once a fish and chip shop opened before, there how prices dropped considerably, selling there flat at a loss because of the smell from the chippy.
some people! I don’t even know where to begin with this nonsense
They all have windows Susan. You can’t get planning without windows. Windows are like opinions… everybody has to have one.
Be reserved for the next lot of mi grunts that’ll be dumped on us.
I’m pretty sure that those who can’t spell migrants probably shouldn’t cast aspersions.
Some are wise enough to know that ‘certain’ words are auto checked by Echo, so DD is wise to deliberately ‘mis-spell’ oh not so wise one.
And sadly even if such don’t physically be place in such, others DISPLACED by such possibly will.
See it how it is.
