A Coastguard Rescue Team on the mainland were tasked to reports of a pontoon from Yarmouth adrift off Lee-on-Solent this morning (Saturday).
Hillhead CRT arrived on the South Coast shore to discover the large, grey pontoon from the Royal Solent Yacht Club floating around in the surfline.
The pontoon, which is used to moor up and access boats, was recovered to a slipway and secured for removal by Gosport Council.
Adverse weather conditions overnight are thought to have led to the pontoon coming lose and drifting eastwards up the Solent and across the busy shipping lane at the entrance to Southampton Water.
