Police and paramedics are in attendance at a single vehicle collision on the outskirts of Newport tonight (Tuesday), where a car has rolled onto its roof.
The incident, which occurred on Blacklands Lane just before 20:45, has involved a black VW Polo which has come to rest upside down across the width of the carriageway.
A female occupant is being tended to by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, with first aid given by a responding Armed Response Unit.
It’s not thought at this stage that drink or drugs have played any part in the crash.
Police have closed the road in both directions between Staplers Road and Briddlesford Road whilst the casualty is treated and recovery of the vehicle is arranged.
UPDATE – A woman in her 40s who was driving the VW Polo was taken to hospital for further assessment and treatment.
The road re-opened at around 23:00.

I really do hope this lady is ok. But, in a very short period of time I’ve seen a BMW smash into a parked BMW, a car fail to make a junction and plough through a garden wall, a car go around a mini roundabout and ends up on its roof, all on my one little road which is straight, flat and well lit and those are just the ones I know of. People just dont think about driving safely or the damage they could do to other peoples lives. Just slow down and take care, it’s really that simple.
There is a very nasty dip in the road along there, said to my wife yesterday someone is going to hit that at night and come a cropper

Go look on the internet. Many videos of cars rolling over at walking speed. Hit a bank wrong and it’ll easy to go over. So yes, some care is needed, but nothing to do with speed.

This is what happens when most of the roads into Newport are blocked, closed or traffic light operated. Sometimes it horrendous just to get into town. Never seen so many road work signs on all the roads into Newport
