A Sandown man who brandished a revolver BB gun during an incident on Sandown High Street in April has been handed a suspended prison sentence.
40-year-old Damien Lendecki, of York Road in Sandown, pleaded guilty to possession of an imitation firearm and possession of a knife in a public place when he appeared before Magistrates on Friday (9th June).
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that at around 23:00 on the evening of 28th April, Lendecki was walking along the High Street in Sandown when he became involved in an incident, which left him with serious injuries.
During this incident, Lendecki reached into his bag and brandished a Crossman revolver BB gun by the barrel.
Multiple Armed Police Units responded to the area some 3o minutes later and quickly donned protective gear and equipment before moving in to manage the situation.
Defending, Michael McGoldrick said that his client had lost his good name as a result of the incident and that Lendecki was a member of the armed forces when he lived in Poland and that he had completed specialist training whilst in the military.
It was heard in the court how Lendecki was on his way to practice shooting cans with his BB Gun before the events of that night unfolded.
After lengthy deliberations, Magistrates sentenced Lendecki to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months. He was ordered to complete 15 rehabilitation activity days and complete 60 hours of unpaid work. The 40-year-old was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £154.

‘on his way to practice shooting cans’
At 11pm at night? Sounds unlikely but it seems that Magistrates will fall for any story these days. And, apparently, he needed to carry a knife to do that as well?
And, just by coincidence, he got himself involved in an ‘incident’ whilst walking through Sandown carrying a gun and a knife.
Yes, I expect we can all see and understand how this chap allegedly had a good name before all this happened.
Because our prisons are filled to capacity with our own as well as the worlds criminals arriving daily, the courts can never ever again give meaningful sentences to any but the ‘very worse’ criminals now.
So the problem will grow worse each passing day as more arrive, see how soft the UK is, and then get given a home, an income yet STILL repay us by crime.

Exactly Gerrard, for IF a Cow were to kill a hiker in the countryside, it would be a terrible but likely unavoidable accident.
Yet if a Puma killed someone in the same field here, questions would RIGHTLY be asked of How did it get here? Who allowed it in? Was it necessary to have it here?
Who checked to see if it were safe? etc etc.
BIG difference, same results, as one case is unavoidable the other likely would have been.
an ex soldier from the polish army with a knife ended up getting a kicking, says a lot for his training.
