Roads Policing officers will once again be focusing on targeting drink and drug drivers this December, as part of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s annual campaign to make sure the roads are safe throughout the festive season.
Operation Limit comes at a time of year when many people will be out celebrating and consuming more alcohol than usual.
All December, there will be increased patrols and enforcement activity on the roads to target anyone choosing to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The Force will also be conducting early morning patrols to target those still impaired the following morning after drinking.
In 2024, Hampshire & IOW Constabulary made a total of 322 arrests during Operation Limit. There were 152 motorists arrested on suspicion of drink driving and 170 arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
Chief Inspector Emma Hart, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said:
“Drink and drug driving kills and seriously injures people. The decision can be life changing for you and the people around you and there is absolutely no excuse for it.
“You will face serious consequences if we catch you driving while impaired from drink or drugs.
“You could lose your licence, and not having a car in the modern world can also mean you lose your job as a result.
“We’re asking everyone to take responsibility and help us save lives. Don’t get behind the wheel if you’re not fit to drive.”
If you know someone is drink or drug driving call 999 if it is happening now. You can also provide information for a non-emergency by calling 101 or Crimestoppers.

Why are the police standing like two 1980s door bouncers
Brought back memories when I was a bouncer trying to look hard
Nowdays people use viagra.
Great to hear, keep our roads safe.
Clamp down on speeding too, also
I have never seen a place where so many
motorists think it’s ok to drive with no
number plate on their vehicle and leave it
out of sight in their front window.
I’d like to know the numbers for just the island.
They might get more respect if they didn’t go around looking like a sack of shit with an out of control beard. Wouldn’t have got away with that in my day, which doesn’t say much for their supervisors, either.
I hope someone is having a word with the Chairman of the Bench. There is no point the police catching drink and drug drivers of the courts then let the culprits off with a ticking off. If people can afford to drink and buy drugs they can afford to pay hefty fines plus the option to crush the cars involved should be seriously considered. The latter would seem severe but would be a hige deterent.
Crushing the vehicles will stop the numpties offending.
Also stop numpties parking outside Domino’s
along Regent Street in Shankln.
There is constantly a blue 59 plate Ford
car parked there.
In the old days they a ticket would have been
slapped on it.
Maybe IW Council Enforcement Officers will
do something about it or maybe they get free
Pizza’s and turn a blind eye
Maybe Domino’s have special treatment!
Safety is more important than a poxy pizza
Roll on devolution, that will stop illegal parking
once and for all!
We need a Mayor like Khan, he would sort
the numpties out once and for all!
