UPDATED: Police are in attendance at a convenience store in Sandown tonight (Monday) following what unconfirmed reports say is a robbery on the town’s Welcome store, in which staff were ‘threatened with a metal bar’.
Several emergency units raced to the scene on Avenue Road near The Burlington Hotel at around 22:15 after what is understood to be a robbery took place.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary are now patrolling the streets of Sandown and a Police dog unit is roaming the back alleys in the search for a suspect.
No one is thought to have been injured in the incident.
UPDATE TUESDAY: Nearly 36 hours after the incident Police have launched an appeal for information, confirming that an armed robbery took place.
