Police are reminding Islanders about the dangers of entering derelict properties and building sites following an incident in Ryde this afternoon (Monday).
Officers were called to George Street in the town at 16:08 when reports were received of persons unknown entering and causing damage to Hanover House – a derelict property next to the Royal York Hotel.
No one was located but it was found that windows had been smashed.
The site is said to be undergoing renovation.
A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Our advice to anyone would be not to enter any building site without permission as they can be very dangerous places and you could get seriously hurt”.
Probably just going to view the property to rent. After seeing some of the islands houses for rent, i would prefer to live there.
Shame, how can these buildings be left to fall down!! IOW council sort it out!!!

How very touching the Police care so much for the low life that give them nothing but grief.
What a shame that now, in the overly PC world, people are no longer allowed to speak honestly, which, if they could may be very different, something along the lines of ‘ I hope you break your worthless neck if breaking into other peoples property you low life benefit kept trash’.

So pleased the Royal York is being “renovated”, lovely hotel – presume it is being converted to flats; which is a shame especially as people will be looking for holiday breaks in the UK more.

The Royal York isn’t really being renovated, it’s being tarted up to stop the local council complaining.
