Police are investigating the death of a man in his 40s at an address on the outskirts of Newport last night (Sunday).
It was at around 20:00 that the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, supported by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, responded to a property on Hogan Close off Horsebridge Hill.
The situation led to the scrambling of Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, with the helicopter landing in a field off Stag Lane at 20:30.
Sadly, there was nothing that could be done to save the life of the patient, confirmed to be a man in his 40s.
His next of kin has been informed.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that they were alerted to the sudden death at 21:04. Numerous officers responded to the scene.
Police say that the death remains under investigation and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.
At the same time as the incident in Hogan Close, medics were responding to another medical emergency on nearby Parkhurst Road – outside St Mary’s Hospital.
Island Echo understands that a female, who was on holiday on the Island, suffered a cardiac arrest. This prompted an emergency response from hospital-based doctors and from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, which landed on the helipad at St Mary’s just moments before Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance landed less than a mile up the road.
It’s thought the woman was then airlifted to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
