Emergency services are dealing with a crash on Middle Road near Calbourne this morning (Thursday).
Fire crews from Newport have been mobilised to the scene, located between Carisbrooke and Calbourne, alongside paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Police are also in attendance and have closed the road in both directions, according to Island Echo readers.
The incident, which involves an unknown number of vehicles, occurred shortly before 05:15.
UPDATE @ 06:20 – Unconfirmed reports suggest that a car has collided with a tree that has fallen across the carriageway.
The vehicle is said to have been heading West towards the West Wight at the time. The crash has occurred West of The Blacksmith Arms.
UPDATE @ 06:35 – 1 person has been injured in the incident, which has been confirmed by emergency services as a collision between a car and a tree.
The male casualty was initially feared trapped but that is thankfully not the case. He is now in the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and is expected to be conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
The road remains closed from the junction with Betty Haunt Lane and Sun Hill at this time whilst recovery of the vehicle and the disposal of the tree is arranged.
UPDATE @ 13:54 – Calbourne (Middle) Road remains closed this afternoon as Island Roads undertake emergency tree maintenance works.
The road is closed between Pump Lane and Betty Haunt Lane.

I went through there at approx 11:00 going down Betty Haunt lane from Calbourne and it was all clear. Came back at 13:00 ish and it was all closed??? Curiouser and curioser!!!
A tragic accident but why didnt the driver see a tree in the middle of the road .
