Police investigating a series of arson attacks in East Cowes have released their prime suspect from bail whilst enquiries continue. A 56-year-old man was arrested at Kingslea Park in the town last September as part of a major investigation into numerous fires – all suspicious in nature. A motor home and a car were seized as part of the arrest. The incidents occurred between 14th July 2022 and 16th June 2023 with almost a dozen vehicles thought to have been deliberately set alight in the York Avenue, Mayfield Road, Victoria Grove and Kent Avenue areas. In the most recent incident, a significant blaze broke out at a residential property on Princess Close, as first reported by Island Echo. The total estimated value for the damage caused is between £350,000-400,000.

So he’s been on bail for 6 months now, and the Police haven’t yet got enough evidence to charge him.
I wonder if the Police will ever get enough evidence.
Unfortunately I think they know they have the correct individual, but I understand they don’t have enough evidence to be able to present to the CPS, to move forward with a prosecution, hopefully they will resolve this issue, as stated below in another comment, strange how all the incidents have stopped whilst he’s been on police bail ? ,,,, Just Saying !
Ought to fit a neck collar with a tracking device so his whereabouts can be traced at all times.
Need to fit such to all released rapist and violent crime offenders but with a small explosive device situated against the spinal cord. Then if they try to remove such or they hold hostages the device can be remotely detonated by the police.
This guy has not even been convicted of anything yet. A bit heavy handed don’t you think, for someone who has not even been too court or proven guilty?
Better safe than sorry. Neck collars with tracking devices and explosives should be fitted to teenagers and all previously convicted criminals.
Told you no evidence released without charge you watch even though he has been at it for years
So it’s just a total coincidence that the fires have stopped since he has been under investigation.
Well if the people that think he is the culprit are correct let’s hope he doesn’t do it again, if he does and is caught he’s looking at a potential life sentence.
Why? shows how useless there are so he gets f all as usual i bet he pays nothing back for all the damage..bet his lawyers get the mental issue card out..
In the old days, the police knew how to get a confession out of a suspect.
Bloody do gooders stopped all the things that used to be a deterrent and a lesson for next time
I bet he used the line ” No Comment ” and his legal team were paid for by the working tax payer. The courts would have let him off anyway because he was misunderstood.
They will soon know it was him if the arson starts again won’t they? Been fairly quiet lately has it not?
Obviously that’s not enough of a clue for the police no fire’s for 6 months
