Police on the Isle of Wight are continuing their appeal for information following a fatal road traffic collision that claimed the life of a 45-year-old Island man during the early hours of Saturday morning.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the driver of a Renault Trafic died at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Ningwood Hill, between Shalfleet and Yarmouth, at around 01:20 on 23rd July.
Despite the efforts of medics, the man’s life could not be saved and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Officers from the mainland-based Collision Investigation Unit spent several hours piecing together the events of the early hours of Saturday in a bid to understand what led to the 45-year-old’s death.
As part of the ongoing investigation, Hampshire Constabulary is appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area prior to the collision, to contact them. Were you in the area at the time? Did you see the vehicle before the collision or maybe you have dash-cam footage?

Did he have a seat belt on? Did he die as a result of the crash or a medical episode at the wheel? Yes the van looks damaged but wouldn’t say the damage was enough to kill someone.

I am afraid if IE continue to allow comments on any stories there will always be a situation when ‘ ghoulish weirdos ‘ comment, a lot of news on IE attracts unfortunate comments and always will, it’s called social media, where comments are made that would never be made face to face with the identity of the comment maker clear to see.
Some news outlets have now withdrawn the comments section due to unacceptable posts.
Having said that the choice can be made not to read the comments, but human nature is people will do just that. Some people call it free speech, others abuse of free speech.

The reason I.E.allows comments on stories is that it drives clicks to the website which is what their advertisers want. So its all about money, as usual.
