UPDATED: Police have closed the upper part of Newport High Street tonight (Wednesday) as a result of an ongoing incident.
Officers are stopping vehicles from travelling down the one-way road from its junction with Drill Hall Road.
Southern Vectis say their Route 7 buses are diverting via Whitepit Lane until further notice.
UPDATE @ 21:23 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 15-year-old teenage boy took up position on the roof of Poundland, indicating he wanted to jump.
Thankfully, the incident has now been brought to a safe conclusion and the road has been re-opened.
Firefighters from Newport’s Green Watch were mobilised to the scene to assist Police colleagues.
